HOW DID LUNAR JANUARY GET THE NAME “THÁNG GIÊNG”?

“Tháng Giêng” originated from the Chinese language. Researchers stated that Chinese people called the first month of the year Chính nguyệt (正月), with Chính as the first (month) of the year.

Chính then got morphed into Chiếng, then Giêng, in the Vietnamese language as time went by.
