IS ” WHERE ARE YOU HEADING?” A REAL QUESTION?

Questions (interrogative sentences) are primarily used for inquiries, indicated by question words such as what, how, where. However, in certain circumstances, Vietnamese people tend to use questions to greet each other instead of a “hello”. These questions are merely social niceties.

The question “where are you (anh, chị, bác, cô…) heading?” requires no response. Such answers like “I’m heading there for a while”, “OK, where are you going then?” would suffice.
