Minh Hương is a group of Chinese Vietnamese residing in the Southern region of Vietnam. The name Minh Hương originated from the feudal time (Ming Dynasty in China) in which their ancestors lived and from which they migrated to Vietnam due to political instability. Minh Hương people first arrived at and settled in Đồng Nai area, including Cù lao phố, Biên Hòa, Bến Nghé-Chợ Lớn. After several generations mingling with Vietnamese, Minh Hương descendants nowadays are genetically more on the Vietnamese side and speak solely Vietnamese; however, some still retain their Chinese traditions. Along with native Vietnamese, Minh Hương people have contributed to the long history of exploring and expanding the Southern region, in terms of economy, culture, customs and especially language.
